In the midst
of the storm, lightning and thunder, Dasch scored 3 to end the
losing streak.
One significant
omission from the line up was our manager Tan
Eng Kiat, who was late due to other commitments. However,
the new defence consisting of Stanley,
Chekky and Lester
did not let the team down. It was also boosted by the
presence of Sui Jin.
The match
started in the usual note with the opponents dominating the midfield.
They had the control of the ball and make us look like a bunch
of primary school kids fighting for the ball while they waltzed
pass the midfielders.
I must say
that the weather was pretty good. No sun and rather cold and windy.
A perfect weather to remain in bed on a sleepy sunday morning???
That could be the reason from the lacklustre performance from
the dasch players. Most of us shagged out so easily and couldn't
match the opponent's in their running and power. The defence had
a busy time clearing all the dangerous balls coming in. Special
mention must be given to the fast improving defence. Forget about
the numerous dumb "ball come and the legs miss it" type
of situation, the defenders tackle hard and the industrious Stanley
never let anyone pass him. Not to mention the hard man Tianrui
with his timely (wild) tackles.
The attack
was pretty much the same with the final touch letting us down.
Whenever we get into their penalty box, we don't know what to
do, but play 3-on-3 basketball with them..passing around the area
with no one ready to take the shot.
The much anticipated
half time whistle came to end the scrapy half. The feeling of
"oh yeah..we are going for our 4th defeat soon" sums
up the atmosphere in the "dressing room".
Half time
rest was short due to the bad weather. 5 mins into the 2nd half,
the sky blew open and the rain came. Darn..it was bloody heavy.
However, since everyone was already wet, might as well play on.
I guess the
rain not only brought us the water, lightning and thunder, it
brought us luck too. Stamina in such a fine cool weather was no
longer a factor now. The dasch incredible machine started to
crank up a gear.
The midfielders
started to win back the ball, and good coordinated passings were
shown between them and the forwards. The pushing up of chekky
to boost the attack helped nevertheless(?). Mingheng
was their marked man, he at one time managed to dribble pass 4
defenders before the 5th one managed to steal the ball from him.
It was a day
for the midfielders as all of them chalked up a goal each. In
fact all the goals came from corners. The first by Desmond....the
ball pin-balled around everyone and finally dropped onto his feet.
He finished it off coolly within 5 metres out from the net, giving
the GK no chance. Goal number 1.
2nd goal came
from a similar situation. The opponent never clear the ball in
time and it fell onto Kenneth's
path. He awkwardly slam the ball into the net. Actually, the power
wasn't there, the ball just managed to roll and squeeze pass their
defenders and GK. Goal number 2.
The last goal
was also a result of the fumble from the opponent's defenders.
The ball dropped into Raymond's
path and he squeezed the ball between the post and the standing
GK from 10 metres out. Goal number 3.
Back in defence,
with the able Stanley marshalling
them in Eng Kiat's absence,
not much chances were given to the opponent. Rui
Bin's did a couple of fine saves at the near posts.
Cheng Chai, as usual was full
of his tricks (which didn't work 80% of the time). He also ended
the match without scoring.... hahah. Lester
and Sui Jin gave fine hardworking
performances, running up and down tiredlessly like Desmond.
That sums
up the good match, ending dasch's 3 match straight defeats. Everyone
was soaking wet, but the mood was not the same as the previous
3 matches. Well done Dasch Rovers.
