The long-running stupid poll 9 has ended as at 19 June 2000 and reaped 37 votes, an encouraging response from our players and fans. The only sore point for me is, it seems that after reading my preview of the nominees, our female fans voted based on irrational biological impulses (triggered off by the words "stud" and "cute") rather than on technical merits (as indicated by the phrase "awesome footballing skills"). How else do you explain the fact that Kenneth and Alvan each ACTUALLY got more votes than Minheng?

Anyway, the not-so-clear-cut winner is the aptly-named Yip "Mr Popular" Yiying who got 7 votes, very narrowly beating out other hot contenders RuiBin, Cheng Cai and Lester, all of whom received 6 votes each. Let's give "Sexy Legs Yip" a round of applause for outlasting his competitors and gaining the much coveted honour of being the first-ever Dasch Player of the Year. Now it's confirmed that Yiying has the most admirers (male and female and mixed) among us, and this, coming hot on the heels of his victory as "The Coolest Dude in Dasch" in the previous poll, shows his undoubted star quality. A few seductive, topless photos of him on our website may even launch his budding modelling/acting/singing/ballet/political career, and who knows, he could be the next Pierre Png or Lee Hsien Loong, or better. (Please don't forget us when you have made it big ok, Yiying?)

Lester, Rui Bin and Cheng Cai also did very well.. these guys have a potential fan base just waiting to be tapped. "We love Ah-Bin" tanktops, anyone? What about replicate "Lessie" jerseys? Or specially designed "We will support CaiCai forever" posters? Consider: the commercial potential is enormous man.. and if we play our cards right, dollar bills will keep falling on our heads and Dasch's days of poverty and destitution will be history (and the co-editor will get paid at last).

As for the rest, they did ok.. getting a combined 1/3 of total votes. Kenneth, Desmond (I voted for him by the way)and Alvan 3 votes each, Chek 2 and Minheng 1. With better hairstyling, make-up, speech-training, spin-doctors and the right togs, these guys can, hopefully, make it into the rarefied ranks of superhunkdom (already achieved by Yiying) Cough.

Raymond and Eng Kiat failed to get any votes. Don't fret, I am sure there was some technical problem with the polling program which prevented people from registering their votes for you. And console yourself with the thought that this poll has degenerated into some stupid beauty contest instead of the serious survey it was originally supposed to be. At least you still have your integrity intact, unlike those sell-outs. Cough.
